York Elderberry

York is an American elderberry with large dark purple berries and vigorous, upright growth. Fully ripe fruit is used cooked for juice, preserves, wine and baking.

Released at Geneva, New York, in 1964, York comes from Adams 2 and Ezyoff parentage. Ontario accounts place its harvest in late August, giving useful regional context when comparing it with earlier elderberries.

Use fully ripe berries cooked, with stems removed. Unripe berries, leaves and stems are not edible.
