Red Currant - Red Lake (Ribes rubrum 'Red Lake')

Red Lake is a red currant introduced in Minnesota in 1933 and selected for berry size, long clusters, and productivity. The large bright red berries ripen in midsummer, typically in July.

The fruit has a tart, tangy, slightly sweet flavour and is used fresh or for jam, jelly, sauces, and preserves. The shrubs are vigorous and begin producing at a relatively young age.
