September Ruby Apple Tree

September Ruby was developed at the Morden Research Station in Manitoba from a cross of Rescue and Haralson. Agriculture Canada introduced it at Beaverlodge, Alberta, in 1986. It has also been grown successfully in Alaska and is sometimes called the King of the North.

The red apples are about 6 to 7 cm across, with a crunchy texture and tart flavour. They ripen in September and are suited to fresh eating, pies, and juice. The tree tolerates temperatures around −46°C (−50°F) and has moderate resistance to fire blight.
