Ben Tirran is a late-season black currant bred at the Scottish Crop Research Institute. Its recorded pedigree is Ben Lomond × [(Seabrooks Black × Amos Black) × (Seabrooks Black × Ribes sp.)].
Plants are upright and reasonably vigorous, producing medium to large, firm-skinned black berries suited to juice, preserves, and other processing. In the breeder's account, flowering is about a week after Ben Lomond and ripening follows Ben Lomond by roughly 3–7 days.
Grow in full sun to partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. Full sun supports heavier crops; an organic mulch helps keep roots cool and evenly moist.
